Methods of Protecting Your Website from Hackers

Your website is no doubt very important to you and to the well being of your business so you need to be sure that your website always stays safe from hackers. If hackers can gain access to your website then they can essentially take it over and cause you all sorts of damages.

Luckily there are many ways in which you can keep hackers at bay when it comes to your website, including:

•    Password Protection: Any and all files that are associated with your website should be password protected. You should make certain that the passwords are unique and avoid using your birth date and other numbers and/or phrases that might be easily guessed by a hacker. Yo can also change your passwords every month or so to add even higher levels of protection.
•    Secure Your E-Mails: Be sure that you e-mails are always secured. This goes for incoming e-mail as well as outgoing e-mail. With outgoing e-mail, be sure that your message is being sent over a secure server. Also keep in mind that many hackers will attempt to gain access to your website by first sending you an e-mail that once opened, allows them access to your website files. So, if you are unsure of any incoming e-mail, don’t open it.
•    Always Run Updates: If you built your own website, then you likely used some sort of software to do so. You should therefore always be sure to check for the latest version of that software and run updates whenever they are available. While you may view it as a slight inconvenience, many time the updates are software ‘patches’ aimed at fixing a potential security threats.
•    Secure Your Source Code: Your source code is what your website is comprised of. Many hackers will attack your source code and attempt to hijack or clone your website. You can protect and secure your source code using special scripts that allow your source code to stay hidden from all internet users.
•    Run Antivirus and Antimalware Software Regularly: Make sure that your antivirus and/or anti-malware software is run at least once a month. This is especially important if you are the one who is uploading all the files for your website. By always making sure your machine is clear of all potential viruses and malware, you make it extremely hard for hackers to get a hold of anything tangible that they will then be able to use against you.
•    Remove Old Files: As you change your website, you may start to ignore old files. Instead of ignoring them and leaving them for a hacker to possibly utilize, it is better for the safety of your website if you simply get rid of them once you no longer need them.

When it comes to your website, safety should be a top priority. Never comprise any safety issues and always keep in mind that there will always be hackers out there just waiting for the opportunity to pounce on your website and render it obsolete.
